Rose City Chess is offering full-day and weeklong summer training camps again throughout 2024! Come join other chess-loving kids for a full day of lessons and games.

  • Camp Awards for Every Student

Our training camps are fun, focused, and completely immersive. Each day includes dedicated time for structured lessons, puzzles, studies, game analysis, and USCF rated games. We include breaks for less strenuous (and more silly) activities. Past examples include:

  • Giant Chess

  • Mini-Golf

  • Badminton

  • Chess Cornhole

  • Piece Stacking Contest

  • Chess Relay Race

  • Chalk Art

  • Blindfold Chess

  • Chess Variants (Bughouse, Hyper-Lucky Chess)

  • Beat the Coach Simul

  • Scavenger Puzzle Hunt

Don’t know how to play chess? We will teach you.

Stuck at a certain rating class? We will show you how to become stronger.

All camps will be 100% in-person. Students will be grouped according to playing strength. Students receive a free Chess Steps workbook suitable for their level.

Ages: 1st-8th grade

Cost: $75 for single-day camps, $149 for two-day camps, $214 for three-day camps, $349 for five-day camps. Sorry, no single day purchases for multi-day camps.

Are the same topics covered every camp?

We introduce 100% new puzzles and positions each week of the camp. We have a curriculum with over 14,000 positions, sorted by playing strength and theme.

What are your Covid protocols?

We follow all protocols set by the Oregon Health Authority. These can change on short notice. We will notify participants of any changes.

Are food and beverage provided?

Lunches and snacks are not provided, so please send your own. We do often have a special treat though in the afternoon.

What is your cancellation policy?

  • Cancellation requests must be sent via email to chad@rosecitychess.com.

  • Cancellation at least 14 days before event begins: 100% of fees refundable or transferable to a different event.

  • Cancellation at least 7 days before event begins: 50% of fees refundable or transferable to a different event.

  • Cancellation less than 7 days before event begins: Non-refundable.

  • All refunds subject to a 3% processing fee.
